Dunkeld from Craigvinion

Dunkeld lies on the banks of the River Tay surrounded by thickly-wooded hills, and is an ideal centre for lovers of the great outdoors. At the Cross in the village centre, you are surrounded by the beautifully restored 17th Century Buildings.

You can walk down to Dunkeld Cathedral, part ruined but still used as the parish church. Stroll by the River Tay (Scotland's longest river) and cross Thomas Telford's Bridge, which leads to the tranquil village of Birnam.

The Dunkeld area is superb for walks with an integrated network of forest trails and mountain bike routes. Golfers will enjoy the challenge of Dunkeld's scenic 9-hole course, with several others nearby. Some of Scotland's finest salmon and trout angling is enjoyed here, particularly on the River Tay. There is a children's activity centre at Dalguise, just to the north, whilst tennis and bowls are also available to visitors.

Dunkeld is peaceful in the evenings, athough there are summer concerts in the Cathedral and occasional folk music - but it is easy to reach the theatres and other entertainments in the larger towns of Perth and Pitlochry.
